Drosera derbyensis is a member of the "Petiolaris complex" (sect. Lasiocephala) group of wooly sundews native to the Northern Territory and Western Australia states. Adult plants are generally smaller in diameter and height relative to other members of the section. Petioles are long, light green with a dense covering of white indumentum. Traps are small, ovate with red-orange tentacles.
